Rental Terms
All car rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive at the time of booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle through Car Hire in Wakefield, drivers must be at least 21 years old, though certain vehicle types may have different age requirements and additional fees for those under 25. A valid, full driving licence for the relevant vehicle category is necessary, and it must have been held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Customers should present valid identification and proof of current address, along with payment information and a security deposit. Any further criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Wakefield office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. Prices are displayed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, a comprehensive inspection is required. Please report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be finalized and signed at this time. It is important to return the vehicle in a comparable condition to when it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and associated charges will apply. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at the start of the rental; refueling fees will be incurred for lower levels. Should you expect to return the vehicle late, notify us as soon as possible, as this may result in additional charges. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges accrued during your rental, alongside an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Policies
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You can find complete coverage information and excess amounts detailed in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to lessen your financial liability, so reviewing these options is recommended. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess unless you have opted for additional coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse will remain your responsibility, irrespective of insurance status.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the booking type and the amount of notice provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited uses of the rental vehicle:
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, or off-road driving is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is unacceptable. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes, and adherence to passenger and weight limits is required. Operating the vehicle beyond the designated geographical boundaries without prior consent is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Limitation of Responsibility
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Wakefield is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, stemming from your use of our services. Our liability for any claim is capped at the total rental amount paid in the past year. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.
